Did you know that using bi-lateral alternating tactile stimulation (which I call BLAST, not DAS or BLS) outside of a therapy appointment can actually reduce excess high frequency brainwaves in key stress networks?
BLAST can be used safely by consumers or clients to reduce stress in real time and many therapists are encouraging clients to use this as an adjunct to in-office treatments.
For BLAST to work, it does not have to be in hands or touching skin, so pockets or other areas of the body work
It might surprise you that for BLAST to work, it doesn’t have to be in your client’s hands or touching their skin. TouchPoints™ work in pockets, socks, or even clipped to clothing. So now you can work with your patients while their hands are free if you’d like.
Concerned about dissociation? To date, our app has been used over 32,000 times in non-therapeutic settings as a general stress reducer with no reported incidences of increased dissociation.
So don’t limit the use of BLAST in your office. Many therapists around the world use TouchPoints™ in their offices, for themselves, and encourage their clients to use them in their everyday lives for better treatment outcomes.
I understand this might conflict with some of the things you’ve been taught and you are risk averse for fear of not causing your clients harm by recommending they use BLAST outside of your office. We are in the same boat here, which is why I encourage you to do your due diligence by taking a look at our research page.
Speaking of neuroscience, the different forms of DAS/BLS (dual attention stimuli/bilateral stimulation) have different effects. I’ve found EMDR Therapy to be most effective using BLAST (remember the T in blast stands for tactile) throughout the stages of therapy and then I add eye movements during phase 4 in conjunction with BLAST.
"I use TouchPoints™ in session to relax my clients and help them access and share information that otherwise they wouldn't. My clients are able to put the TouchPoints™ in their pockets while drawing or moving.
I have some clients wear the TouchPoints™ at home throughout the day and turn them on during a stressful time for calming and soothing. Some will put them on prior to times that are stressful for them."
~ Wendy Moyer, LMFT, EMDR Certified Therapist
I’d like to challenge you to think outside the box and use TouchPoints™ for your clients and then bring them home and use them for 10 minutes before bedtime if you have trouble sleeping, for a few minutes in between clients, and anytime you feel stress in your own life.
If you do this, please share your experiences with firstname.lastname@example.org and consider becoming an ambassador. The more qualitative and quantitiative data we have, the better we can work towards helping people live their best lives.
